As wonderful as the sport of table tennis is, there is always room for improvement. Based on this line of reasoning, the powers that be have instituted a number of changes over the past ten years designed to make the game of ping-pong more user friendly. We have seen changes in the scoring system, modifications to the size of the ball and a switch in the type of glue used in the rubber on the bats. Now the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has decided to change the kind of material used to make the balls, which supposedly will improve the quality of rallies by slowing them down and making it a bit harder to snap off sizzling unreturnable winners. The new plastic material that will be used is a bit more bouncy and a bit slower – a combination that will presumably force players to rely more on skill and less on pure power.

British Olympic star, Andrew Baggaley, has referred to the coming change as bizarre, and serious players are expressing scepticism that these new balls will make any noticeable impact on the way the sport is played. From the perspective of the new player, it is certainly possible that these new balls will indeed make the sport a bit more user-friendly but, then again, table tennis has been around for a long time, and its recent rise in popularity in the UK has obviously not been slowed down by the types of material used to manufacture the balls.

While we are not categorically opposed to changes such as this, we believe improving the sport for amateur table tennis enthusiasts begins by increasing access to facilities. Players need places to play. If a concerted effort were being made to install more outdoor table tennis tables in public areas, it could benefit the growth of this sport tremendously. Indoor tables are fine, but when deciding where to put a new table tennis table, outdoor settings bathed in fresh air and sunshine are really the best choice. This is why parties interested in helping this sport grow should be checking out the amazing outdoor table tennis tables offered for sale by Caloo.

No company sells a higher-quality product than Caloo. Sleek, attractive, durable, glare- and fade-resistant – all of these are adjectives that can be used to describe the outdoor table tennis tables available from the UK’s finest exercise and sports equipment supplier. Installing more of these tables in public places will provide new opportunities for aspiring athletes of all ages to discover the wonders of table tennis. This will make a much more positive impact on the sport than any cosmetic change – such as changing the material used to make the balls – ever could.

No matter what kind of balls people are playing with, an outdoor table tennis table is fun for all. The more of these tables that are made available, the better it will be for this fast and exciting sport.

So how are you making it through these tough economic times? By staying at home on the sofa in front of the TV, snacking on junk food and escaping into dramas to avoid thinking about how tight your budget is and how worried you are about the future? Or maybe you are relying on chocolate and caffeine to keep your mood elevated while others around you are sinking into despair. Then again, maybe you are trying to keep active and healthy but failing simply because you are too depressed and miserable to sustain productive habits.

The reality is that these tough times will eventually pass but if you turn into a motionless lump of inactivity because you don’t know what else to do, you will certainly have to face the consequences of this behaviour long after the recession fades into memory. Rather than allowing yourself to sink into a permanent personal recession of obesity and cardiovascular ineptitude, why not fix your body and lift your mood by choosing this moment to rededicate yourself to a fitness and exercise routine? There must be an outdoor gym located somewhere near your home or office where you will be able to find high-quality outdoor exercise equipment. If you are lucky, that outdoor gym will be supplied with the brilliantly designed and impeccably manufactured outdoor fitness equipment sold by Caloo, the UK’s number one source for superior fitness accoutrements.

Please understand that we are not suggesting Caloo somehow has a remedy for economic hard times, but what this company does have is the sort of outstanding multi-gym equipment that can help people preserve robust physical health in a time when doing so can seem next to impossible. An outdoor gym is great for the heart, mind and body. It is also great for the spirit, because when you are active and in good shape, you will have the energy, motivation and determination you need to get through any sort of difficulty. Personally I find exercising outdoors to be an excellent mind emptier, the day’s worries wash away and I’m left with a clear head. I often do my best thinking while walking or jogging.

Outdoor gyms are not a panacea for all that ails us, but they can be a part of the greater solution we are all seeking in our own lives and for our society as a whole.

If you are feeling sad, hopeless, depressed or discouraged by your plight or your fears about the future, why not break your routine of despair by visiting a nearby outdoor gym? If you start now, you can take control of your health before your retreat into slothfulness becomes an unbreakable habit.

Childhood obesity is a problem across the UK. The situation is now getting particular attention in Scotland after a recent survey revealed that 15% of all primary one children are overweight, obese or clinically obese. Yes, we are talking about four and five year olds – kids who should be out running, jumping, playing and never coming anywhere near a weight problem.

The junk food and video games generations are suffering for their slothful habits. Unfortunately, these habits might be all they know if schools fail to appreciate the importance of play and exercise, and parents are not willing to put in the effort to make sure their kids are staying active. Fortunately, there is enough awareness of the problem that schools are now starting to take some small steps in the right direction. As of 2012, 84% of all Scottish primary schools are now providing at least two full hours of physical education for all primary-age students each week.

But let’s face facts. A couple of hours a week spent in the schoolyard kicking a ball or frolicking a bit on broken down or outdated playground equipment is not going to make a decisive difference, if that is all that children are doing. More than anything, parents need to take responsibility for the obesity crisis by ensuring their kids are more active. When we are talking about the youngest ones, mums and dads have to take the time to get out there with their kids to support and encourage them.

Better school playground equipment is certainly a part of the solution to the crisis as well. Good equipment at schools, in parks or in other convenient locations will encourage kids of all ages to do what comes naturally, and if it’s fun and properly designed, youngsters will not be able to get enough. There are some excellent outdoor play equipment manufacturers around, but those who are serious about getting kids up and moving again should definitely check out the outstanding range of playground equipment offered for sale by Caloo. Providing constructive alternatives for those with poor exercise habits is the driving force for the play and exercise experts at Caloo. In addition, their outdoor play and fitness equipment prices are especially reasonable, which could help out schools that are short on funds.

The situation in Scotland is urgent, and educators, community groups and other interested parties should make a concerted effort to raise the funds they need to purchase high-quality schoolyard equipment. Once such equipment has been purchased and installed in convenient public or school ground locations, it will then be up to Scottish parents to get their kids outside into the sunshine where they belong. Our kids depend on us to do the right thing and to take care of them, and the right thing is to help them establish good exercise habits that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

It is common knowledge that the health benefits of physical fitness are immense, but recent research shows we may have actually been seriously underselling the advantages of exercise this whole time.

Fantastic though it may seem, a study published in the journal Psychological Medicine found that those who had exercised as little as two or three days a month at age 11 scored better on memory tests than those who had not exercised at all. Not surprising, perhaps, until you realise that the memory tests were taken after the men and women in the study had reached the age of 50. Based on this study, it appears any level of exercise when we are young may help us stay sharper in mind and body when we get older, even if that exercise was practiced only on occasion.

This experiment was obviously started many years ago before the personal computer, the smartphone or the games console were even invented for our daily lives. So with all of these indoor attractions for the young that exist to distract them from the healthy pursuits they could be, well, pursuing in the great outdoors, it is now all the more important to take heed of the results of this study.

This new research finding is exciting, but all it really does is reinforce something that we already knew: exercise prevents ill health and those who play sports or use multi-gym equipment, at least occasionally, can reap enormous gains now and later on. Of course, we do struggle with a lack of available exercise facilities, but this situation can be easily addressed if we start making a concerted effort to install outdoor gyms in convenient locations all across the UK. Open-air gyms supplied with superb outdoor exercise equipment, an outdoor table tennis table or school playground equipment for the littlest exercisers are the best type of exercise destinations. They are free, open to everyone, provide regular sunlight and fresh air to those using them, and can easily be placed in the locations where people regularly gather, such as in parks, near sports centres, on the grounds by blocks of flats. They can also be placed in open areas owned by forward-thinking companies who know how much their employees could benefit from having the chance to work out regularly in outdoor gyms.

Outdoor gyms are the cure for what ails us all, and we need them for the sake of our children. Outdoor gym equipment of the best quality will give young people the chance to get just the sort of vigorous exercise they truly need, reducing obesity and teaching them a love for sport and fitness that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Caloo makes outdoor exercise equipment that young people will love to use.

We need to put our children on the route to lasting health by getting them away from their computers, smartphones and gaming consoles and getting them out into the natural world again. Caloo is standing by, ready to help us to help them make this life-saving transition from indoor inactivity to outdoor fun and fitness. In the end, the welfare of our entire country depends on it.

Temperatures may be rising slowly, but they are rising. It is only a matter of time until the coolness of spring transforms into the warmth and sunshine of summer. Well, we can but hope! Scarves and coats will soon be confined to the far corners of the wardrobe, while swimwear and T-shirts will move into heavy usage as sun-worshippers from Portsmouth to Inverness head to parks, beaches and public spaces to soak up the sun and fresh air. Ah, the anticipation of the British summer, the stuff of much debate throughout the cold dark winter months, and this year of course, the cold dark spring months too.

Unfortunately, maybe it’s an evolutionary requirement to replenish internal stocks or maybe it’s just because we’re a little more bored when we can’t go out as much, but we all have a tendency to put on weight during the colder months. Therefore, when the time comes to start exposing a little more skin, many of us may feel a bit self-conscious about this. Exercise, with a healthy diet of course, is the best answer to the problem. If you are looking to lose a bit of excess girth before going on holiday or hitting the beach, the time to start working on your summer body is right now.

If toning or weight loss is your focus, the best way to prepare for the change of seasons is to find the nearest outdoor gym. Fortunately, new venues for outdoor exercise equipment are opening every week, and it has never been easier to find outdoor gyms filled with outstanding multi-gym equipment capable of delivering a rousing workout. With a bit of regularity, you can see that excess weight begin to melt away.

Because you can work up a good sweat while exercising in the great outdoors, the cool weather of spring should be no hindrance. When the warmer weather and the sunshine of summer actually do show up, you can continue your daily workouts and fine-tune a body that is already in fantastic shape, leaving you feeling not the least bit self-conscious about being out and about.

Of course, all of this is conditional on being able to find an outdoor gym that offers the most exquisite exercise experience imaginable, and this is where the sports and fitness professionals at Caloo enter the picture. While it is possible to get a decent workout in an outdoor exercise gym furnished with any safe exercise machines, it won’t come close to matching the intensity and effectiveness of an exercise session performed on the amazing outdoor sports and exercise equipment offered for sale by Caloo.

We can only hope that in the near future, an outdoor exercise facility close to you will feature Caloo’s magnificent outdoor fitness machines. But until that day comes, those who are fortunate enough to have the chance to use this company’s outdoor multi-gym equipment will be the envy of all when summer rolls around and exposed bodies reveal the unvarnished truth.

To find out more about where to find an outdoor gym furnished with Caloo’s equipment, or if you would like to discuss the purchase and installation of fitness machines in any open space, be it your company’s courtyard, school grounds or local park, call Caloo today.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, a study just released in The Lancet has revealed that collective public fitness in the United Kingdom is lagging well behind that of most Western countries. Out of 19 nations studied, the UK ranked number 12 on the list for the number of years of healthy life that is expected for residents, which is 68.6 years per citizen. (Spain was number one with a robust 70.9 years of healthy life expected per person.)

At first reading, the discrepancy between number one and number 12 may not sound like much, but according to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, the difference amounts to an extra 30,000 premature deaths in the UK each year. Poor diet, unhealthy habits and a lack of exercise are making us decidedly unfit as a nation, and it is these lifestyle choices that are fuelling the five preventable killers most responsible for our terrible mortality figures: cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung disease and liver disease.

To improve our numbers, we must start with a few obvious ones, such as eating properly, reducing our alcohol consumption and quitting smoking, but we also have to get up off our lazy bums and start moving again. This is just as important as anything else. Exercise will have a vital role to play in any coming fitness renaissance and, for this reason, we should be pushing to have the best park gym equipment installed in our communities as soon as possible. When designed and manufactured with care, outdoor exercise equipment is fun, invigorating, easy to use and can develop true community spirit.

Caloo manufactures the highest quality multi-gym equipment and with a little extra effort I’m sure that we can easily rise up The Lancet’s list. Caloo are the perfect choice for any group that would like to have outdoor park gym equipment installed in a convenient location where the public likes to congregate. Other outdoor sports equipment suppliers do of course exist, but if we are truly serious about ending our epidemic of obesity and poor fitness, we should undoubtedly be looking to the best for our park gym equipment, and the best is Caloo.

When you have choices, it is only logical to go with the company with expertise, not only in providing the best sports equipment but in installing it and understanding the needs of the customer and their community. Caloo’s fantastic multi-gym equipment could be an amazing remedy for the inactivity that is slowly killing us, and if we want to challenge our friends in Spain for the top spot on the national health list, we should get started today before any more time slips away.

We are only damaging ourselves with our unhealthy lifestyle choices and behaviours. The time is now, UK. Let’s get up and get moving. The reputation of our great nation is at stake!

Britain’s number one female table tennis player, Joanna Parker, made a personal appearance recently in the villages of Charlwood and Horley in Surrey. Her arrival was timed to coincide with the opening of the Horley & District Pubwatch’s Ping Pong in the Park project, which has chosen to honour one of the world’s most popular participatory sports by installing several new outdoor table tennis tables in the Horley Recreation Grounds. During the opening ceremonies, Ms Parker traded volleys with dozens of shivering locals and the odd regional luminary, and afterwards she praised the pubs, businesses and area residents who materially supported the new initiative for providing, “a positive boost for the local community, whilst encouraging table tennis to become even more popular”.

This Ping Pong in the Park project will no doubt introduce the joys of table tennis to a multitude of eager amateur athletes, who we predict will come to treasure the expanded opportunity they are being given to practice this enthralling, fast-paced sport. Ping-pong is great fun and great for fitness, and we should all hope that those in other towns and boroughs choose to follow the lead of the Horley & District Pubwatch in the near future. When communities come together, they can do amazing things. This is a perfect example of this timeless principle in action.

Community groups interested in installing outdoor table tennis tables in convenient public locations should contact the fine folks at Caloo, the company that sells the best outdoor tables available anywhere in the land. Caloo has gained quite a reputation for its excellent outdoor multi-gym equipment, as well as its superb children’s playground equipment, but its outdoor table tennis tables are exceptionally well-crafted additions to the Caloo repertoire. Sleekly built and aesthetically delightful, these table tennis tables are also ruggedly durable, fade- and glare-resistant, and will deliver a true and fair bounce of the ball every time.

While stimulating exercise and thrilling competition are synonymous with the sport, outdoor fun in the sun and clean refreshing air are ideal with sustainable and rewarding exercise habits. Put the two together, and you have something that could conceivably revolutionise the health habits of millions. That statement may sound like an exaggeration, but when exercise is fun, people will continue indefinitely, and spirited games of table tennis played on high quality outdoor table tennis tables have the potential to turn just any casual player into a committed sports and fitness aficionado.

Here’s even more great news: funding for community projects like Ping Pong in the Park is now available through Caloo and their cohorts at 4Grants, an organisation that helps non-profit alliances find financial sponsorship for initiatives designed to help improve the lives of people in the places where they live. Parties interested in emulating the Horley & District Pubwatch example should contact Caloo to find out more about this exciting new community assistance programme.

While the leaders of other nations have all but ignored the problem, two years ago Taiwan’s government decided to do something about it. They launched a public campaign to encourage their citizens to lose a combined 600,000 kilograms over the course of each subsequent year through better diet and exercise, offering prizes and awards to companies, community groups and schools who were able to successfully organise collaborative efforts to slim down and improve fitness.

So far, this initiative has succeeded beyond the government’s wildest dreams, as the Taiwanese people have lost an astounding 2.2 million kilograms in the two years since the programme began. Exercise has now become a part of the daily schedule for those who have chosen to participate in the campaign, which demonstrates that when people are challenged to get healthy and get active they will respond positively and enthusiastically.

The only problem we can see with this initiative is that it perhaps relies on the central government a bit too much. Here in the UK, we would like to see something similar but with a more decentralised approach. Rather than waiting for the government to organise a collective weight loss and health-promoting campaign, we could instead take it upon ourselves to start encouraging small-scale efforts for change in the places where we live, work and study right now.

An outdoor gym that will get people outside and moving would make a fantastic addition to any public or private area where open space is available, and we believe that the right outdoor gym equipment can play a vital and decisive role in bringing about a new and healthier Great Britain. Community groups and private businesses would be wise to invest in outdoor gyms, and it would not require any national government involvement to make these exercise destinations a common sight in every community and in every neighbourhood across the UK.

Of course, an outdoor gym must be supplied with top-of-the-line outdoor sports equipment if people are going to be convinced to make use of it, which is why any public group or private interest that would like to join a burgeoning initiative to promote good health by installing one would be best advised to purchase their outdoor exercise equipment from Caloo. When it comes to supplying an outdoor gym with the best exercise machines available, smart shoppers turn to Caloo, which sells the most durable, effective, efficient and fun outdoor multi-gym equipment you will find anywhere in this part of the world.

We could all benefit tremendously from a weight loss and health campaign to help get the nation moving. Healthy diet plus regular exercise equals an end to the obesity epidemic, and this is an equation we would all be wise to embrace.

In the past, a lunch hour was a time for bosses and employees alike to relax, unwind, recharge their creative batteries and refuel their tired bodies with some nutritious food.

Unfortunately, this is no longer true. Now, all too often, lunchtime is a rushed, harried affair where overstressed and overtaxed labourers are forced to scoff down nutrient-deficient ‘fast’ foods while they remain chained to their desks. A recent survey revealed that 54% of all office workers are now combining lunch with work, and this statistic has been on the rise for quite some time. Even when a work-free lunchtime is preserved by individual companies, it is often shortened, so people feel pressed to finish eating as quickly as they can so they can get back to work.

This is an unfortunate development for everyone because it is compromising the health and the productivity of workers who, thanks to these short-sighted policies, are simply not getting the chance they need to replenish their exhausted minds and bodies. During lunchtime, people need to eat healthy foods at a peaceful pace, and for the sake of their sanity and proper hygiene, they need to do it away from their desks in a wholesome, relaxing, energy-lifting atmosphere.

If companies are truly concerned about productivity, they should give their employees enough time to combine a calm and healthy lunch with some stimulating and life-renewing physical exercise. Outdoor gymnasiums on company grounds or in nearby parks that have been supplied with truly excellent outdoor gym equipment could really help working people of all ages get the midday energy boost they so desperately need. If those outdoor gyms should happen to give users access to the amazing multi-gym equipment offered for sale by Caloo, all who come to workout are sure to come away from the experience totally refreshed and rejuvenated. When you visit any outdoor gym, the exercise equipment you find there should be durable, attractive, user-friendly, diverse in the specific movements it allows, and physically and mentally stimulating – which is actually just another way of saying that all outdoor gyms should always be supplied by Caloo, which offers the best outdoor sports equipment available anywhere in the UK.

What makes outdoor gyms so special is that they provide office workers who spend inordinate amounts of time stuck indoors the opportunity to get out into the fresh air and sunshine, which are the best natural remedies for flagging energy levels. In short, outdoor exercise equipment located in a park or on private company space could be the perfect cure for what ails the modern worker. Combined with a nice, long, leisurely lunch hour, they could improve the productivity of workers here in the UK by leaps and bounds, which would ultimately benefit our entire society.

Promoting academic excellence and achievement must be the primary goal of every school. This is something on which all parents, educators and citizens can agree. This is why some schools – in the United States, for example – have been cutting back on outdoor break times for children so they will have more time to spend on reading, writing and mathematics. This trend has not yet caught on here in the UK, but it may be only a matter of time before playground equipment on British schoolyards is left to rust as kids are kept inside studying for longer periods of time.

Is an attitude that places a dividing line between exercise for the mind and exercise for the body really justified? Is outdoor play equipment more of a luxury than a necessity, and would we all be better off if we worried less about what our kids weigh and more about what they know?

According to new research published in The Journal of Paediatrics, the emphasis so many place on academic subjects at the expense of play and exercise is actually misguided and almost certainly counterproductive. Taking a close look at the exercise habits and academic achievements of a large group of elementary school students, researchers from Creighton University in the state of Nebraska discovered that those who exercised frequently and were aerobically fit, scored twice as high on reading and mathematics tests as those who got little or no exercise.

This finding confirms the belief of many that a healthy mind and a healthy body are in harmony rather than in opposition, and that the benefits kids can obtain by frolicking and having fun on high-quality equipment supplied for their fitness and play furthers the cause of education in every sense imaginable. In reality, playground and fitness equipment manufacturers are the natural allies of those who want to make sure our kids get the best education possible, and when schools fill their play areas with the brilliantly designed equipment sold by the best manufacturer in the business – Caloo – they can be sure that the cause of education is being well served.

When grants for playground equipment are approved, any school that chooses to invest that money in outdoor play equipment supplied by Caloo will be making an important commitment to the well-being of the students in their charge. Caloo is proud to offer the most fun, challenging, stimulating and exercise-promoting outdoor play equipment for schools available anywhere in the British Isles. Everyone in the Caloo family is proud to know the playground equipment they provide will contribute to supreme academic achievement as it helps young people reach a peak of fitness and good physical health.

The truth is becoming more and more clear: let kids play and have fun outside of the classroom, and they will flourish inside the classroom as well!
