The Vision
Springwell School sought to encourage daily physical activity by installing a dedicated Daily Mile track around their playing fields. The objective was to provide a clearly defined route for students to complete their mile-a-day challenge, ensuring a robust and accessible surface that could be used in all weather conditions.
The Solution
Caloo supplied and installed a 300m² SUDS Bond track, designed for high durability, water permeability, and year-round usability.
Key features of the installation included:
- Excavation of 300m² of soil/grass to prepare a solid base for the new track.
- 50mm-thick SUDS Bond surfacing, made from a blend of natural aggregates and recycled rubber granules, ensuring:
- Water permeability, preventing surface water buildup.
- Sustainability, using recycled materials for an eco-friendly solution.
- Durability, allowing consistent use throughout all seasons.
Key Considerations
Ensuring a high-quality base for the track was essential to achieving a smooth and long-lasting surface. The preparation stage involved excavating the grass and soil to a depth of 50mm, providing a stable foundation for the new surfacing.
The Impact
The new Daily Mile track has been a huge success, allowing students to engage in regular physical activity in a safe and inclusive environment.
- All-weather usability, ensuring students can run their mile daily, regardless of the conditions.
- Encourages social interaction, allowing multiple children to run side by side, making the activity more enjoyable.
- Fully inclusive design, providing a smooth, wheelchair-accessible route for students of all abilities.
The installation of this defined, high-quality track has provided a lasting resource that will continue to support health, fitness, and well-being for Springwell School’s students for years to come.
