Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about specifying, costing, installing and maintaining playground and outdoor gym equipment on your project.
Look for a manufacturer’s declaration of conformity to BS EN 1176, evidence of impact testing for surfacing to BS EN 1177, and a post-installation inspection by an independent RPII-qualified inspector. We supply the paperwork and can arrange inspection for you.
Costs vary widely with the size, materials and surfacing you choose, from a few thousand pounds for a single item to larger schemes for full play areas. We provide clear, itemised quotes so you can see exactly where the budget goes.
Best practice is a routine visual check, a more detailed operational inspection every one to three months, and an annual main inspection by an independent RPII-qualified inspector. Our aftercare team can carry these out for you.
We survey the site, produce layouts and visuals, advise on compliance and planning requirements, and value-engineer the specification to suit your budget, working alongside your team from concept to handover.
These are the three planning classifications for residential play space. A LAP (Local Area for Play) is a small space for young children close to homes, a LEAP (Local Equipped Area for Play) serves a wider age range with equipment, and a NEAP (Neighbourhood Equipped Area for Play) is larger with more challenging equipment. The right one depends on the size of your development and the local planning requirements, and we can advise.
Most installations take from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on scope, groundwork and site conditions. We give you a clear programme as part of your quote.
Multiplay units, swings, slides, climbing frames, roundabouts and springers are the most common, often specified alongside outdoor gym equipment, MUGAs, seating and safety surfacing.
Most projects need a level, well-drained base and suitable foundations for the equipment and surfacing. We assess ground conditions during survey and either carry out the groundworks or set clear requirements for your contractor.
With quality materials and regular maintenance, most equipment lasts 15 to 20 years or more. Steel and Robinia timber are especially hard-wearing, and our aftercare service helps you get the longest life from your investment.
