Our Process

How We Bring Your Site's Outdoor Space to Life

From first site visit to long-term aftercare, our four-step process keeps your project simple, transparent and stress-free.

STEP 1 OF 4

Free Site Consultation

Every project starts with understanding who the space must serve: patients, visiting families, children on wards or in waiting areas, and the staff who work there. Our specialists visit free of charge to assess the site, access routes and ground conditions, and to consult with estates teams, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and wellbeing leads so the design reflects genuine clinical and staff needs.

STEP 2 OF 4

Bespoke 3D Design

Our in-house designers turn the brief into detailed 3D visuals and a scaled site plan, ideal for trust board approval and charity fundraising appeals. Designs prioritise accessibility from the first sketch: step-free routes, wheelchair-accessible equipment, rest points, calm sensory zones and clear sightlines, balanced against infection control considerations, site constraints and budget, and refined with you until they are exactly right.

STEP 3 OF 4

Expert Installation

Installing on a live healthcare site demands more care than a school or park, and we plan for it. Our directly employed, DBS-checked teams agree working hours, access routes, deliveries and segregation with your estates team in advance, keep sites securely fenced and signed, and maintain emergency access at all times. Every installation is completed to BS EN 1176 and handed over clean, safe and ready to use.

Aftercare

STEP 4 OF 4

Aftercare & Maintenance

We do not disappear once the ribbon is cut. We provide annual RPII inspections, servicing and repairs to keep your equipment safe, compliant and looking its best. For trusts with multiple sites, our aftercare programmes include consolidated compliance reporting, giving estates teams a single view across the whole portfolio.

Providing outdoor gyms, playgrounds and safety surfacing to NHS and healthcare sites across the UK

Our complete range is designed, supplied and installed in-house to the highest safety standards. Explore the categories most relevant to healthcare settings.

Playground Equipment

A hospital playground transforms the experience of the youngest visitors and patients. Swings, springers, sensory panels and small climbing units near children’s wards, outpatient departments and waiting areas give children a healthy outlet for the stress of appointments and visits, occupy siblings during long stays, and offer paediatric wards a safe outdoor break from the clinical environment.

Multiplay Units

Compact multiplay units deliver climbing, sliding and imaginative play in one small footprint, ideal for the courtyards and pocket spaces typical of healthcare sites. For children’s hospitals, hospices and community health hubs, a single well-placed unit creates a landmark play destination that helps normalise the hospital experience for young patients and their families.

Outdoor Gym Equipment

Accessible and wheelchair-friendly units support supervised rehabilitation sessions, hydraulic rehabilitation gym equipment provides adjustable low-impact resistance for patients rebuilding strength, and standard fitness stations give staff a free way to exercise before, during and after shifts. The same proven ranges we supply as outdoor gym equipment for parks are specified here for healthcare use, so trusts get robust, community-tested kit.

MUGAs

Multi-use games areas earn their place on larger healthcare campuses, staff wellbeing sites and mental health units. An enclosed all-weather court gives staff teams a venue for lunchtime and after-shift sport, supports structured physical activity programmes in mental health and CAMHS settings, and provides young inpatients with a safe, contained space for energetic play as part of their care.

Skate Park Equipment

For CAMHS units, young people’s mental health services and community health campuses, wheeled sports facilities offer something clinical space cannot: activity that feels like normal teenage life. Low-gradient ramps and features support confidence, balance and physical activity for young people in longer-term care, and give community health sites a facility that genuinely engages hard-to-reach age groups.

Outdoor Shelters & Furniture

Shelters, canopies and arbours create all-weather retreats where patients can get fresh air during recovery, families can regroup away from the ward, and staff can take real breaks away from clinical areas. Accessible benches with arm and back support, wheelchair-friendly picnic tables and sheltered walkway seating make grounds usable for every level of mobility.

Safety Surfacing

On healthcare grounds, surfacing is an accessibility and safety issue before it is anything else. Our wetpour and rubber mulch systems provide firm, impact-absorbing surfaces certified to BS EN 1177, smooth enough for wheelchairs, walking frames and drip stands, while resin bound paths create attractive, free-draining walking routes for rehabilitation circuits and daily exercise. Slip resistance and low trip risk are specified throughout.

Get Funding

NHS charities and hospital charitable funds regularly support wellbeing and play projects. Examples of routes include trust capital and estates budgets, staff wellbeing and occupational health funding, integrated care board health inequality programmes, and corporate sponsorship or community fundraising for children’s areas. Our team will help you scope the project and build a costed proposal that supports your funding application or charity appeal.

The Benefits of Playgrounds and Outdoor Spaces for the NHS

Playground equipment and outdoor gym equipment are two of the most cost-effective ways to unlock that potential, delivering benefits for patients, staff and visitors from the day they’re installed. Here are five reasons why they’re worth the investment.

Faster Patient Recovery

Access to outdoor space and physical activity supports faster recovery, better mood and reduced stress. From cardiac patients rebuilding stamina on hydraulic gym equipment to physiotherapy sessions moved outdoors, the estate itself becomes part of the care.

Reduced Anxiety

Play transforms a frightening environment into a manageable one. A hospital playground lets children burn off pre-appointment nerves, making visits calmer for patients, parents and clinicians alike.

Staff Wellbeing and Retention

Somewhere green to take a break, exercise equipment free to use around shifts, and sheltered seating away from clinical areas all support a workforce under sustained pressure. Investing in outdoor space is investing in keeping staff.

Better Experience for Every Visitor

Well-designed grounds improve the experience of everyone who passes through, softening the hospital environment and reflecting positively on the trust at every visit.

Unused Land Turned into a Working Asset

Playground and outdoor gym equipment turn dormant land into infrastructure that supports recovery every single day, giving trusts visible, tangible action behind their wellbeing strategies.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about specifying, funding and installing outdoor equipment for healthcare settings.

How can outdoor gyms support patient recovery and staff wellbeing?+
For patients, outdoor gym equipment provides graded, low-impact exercise that supports cardiac rehabilitation, mobility recovery and mental health treatment plans, with fresh air and daylight adding their own therapeutic value. For staff, free on-site fitness equipment and pleasant outdoor break spaces offer a practical, everyday way to manage the physical and mental demands of healthcare work.
Is your equipment suitable for rehabilitation and therapeutic use?+
Yes. Our hydraulic rehabilitation gym equipment offers adjustable resistance for progressive strength building, our accessible range is designed for seated and wheelchair use, and layouts can be planned with your physiotherapy and occupational therapy teams so equipment supports supervised sessions as well as independent use.
What accessible outdoor gym equipment do you offer for healthcare settings?+
Our accessible range includes wheelchair-accessible hand bikes, chest presses and pull-down units, hydraulic machines with adjustable resistance, and dual units that let a patient and therapist or family member exercise side by side. All are installed with accessible surfacing and transfer space so users of every mobility level can train safely.
What safety surfacing is suitable for hospital and healthcare grounds?+
Wetpour is usually the best fit: firm, seamless and smooth for wheelchairs, frames and unsteady gaits, while absorbing impacts to BS EN 1177 around play and fitness equipment. Resin bound gravel suits paths and rehabilitation walking circuits, and all our surfacing is specified for slip resistance and free drainage.
How do you manage installation on a live healthcare site?+
We plan every detail with your estates team before work starts: agreed working hours, delivery windows, access and segregation routes, secure fencing and signage, and protected emergency access at all times. Our installers are directly employed and DBS-checked, and work is phased to minimise noise and disruption near wards and clinical areas.
Does your equipment meet relevant safety and accessibility standards?+
Yes. Play equipment is designed and installed to BS EN 1176, surfacing to BS EN 1177, and outdoor fitness equipment to BS EN 16630. Accessibility is designed in line with inclusive design guidance and the Equality Act duty, with step-free access, accessible equipment options and supportive furniture throughout.
What ongoing maintenance and aftercare do you provide for NHS sites?+
We offer annual RPII inspections, scheduled servicing, spare parts and responsive repairs, available as one-off visits or ongoing aftercare programmes. Trusts with multiple sites receive consolidated compliance reporting and a single named contact, so estates teams always know the status of every asset.
