Why it matters

The benefits of outdoor play equipment

A well planned play space does more than fill an empty corner of a site. It changes how children use their break times, who joins in, and how confident they are by the end of the year.
  • Physical development. Climbing, swinging and balancing build strength, coordination and core stability.
  • Inclusion. Accessible swings, roundabouts and sensory panels let every child play in the same space.
  • Social skills. Shared equipment encourages turn taking, negotiation and group play.
  • Focus in class. Active break times support concentration and behaviour once children are back inside.
  • Better use of space. Zoning a site by age and activity reduces conflict and gets more from the same footprint.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about specifying, installing and maintaining ZZ Template Test.
What types of playground equipment does Caloo supply?

We design, manufacture and install multiplay units, swings, slides, climbing frames, outdoor gym equipment, MUGAs, skate parks and safety surfacing, all to BS EN 1176.

Does Caloo install the playground equipment?

Yes. Our own in-house teams handle groundworks, installation and surfacing, so one supplier is accountable from survey to handover.

What is the British standard for outdoor playground equipment?

BS EN 1176 covers playground equipment and surfacing. Every item we supply is designed, manufactured and installed to this standard, with independent post-installation inspection available.

How long does it take to install playground equipment?

Most single-area projects are installed in one to two weeks on site. Lead times vary by scheme size and season, and we confirm a programme before work starts.

Can you help with funding applications?

Yes. We regularly support schools, parishes and community groups with bid writing, costed proposals and evidence packs to help close funding gaps.

Do you offer maintenance and after care?

Yes. We offer inspection, maintenance and repair services after handover, plus spare parts for the equipment we manufacture.
